Hello,
I am recreating this thread initially posted by thetadgh:
Hi all
I've been looking in my universe.log and finding errors like :
"<< 2009-05-06 00:01:32 0000808/UniServEch /u_io_callsrv_ver /000000000 - u_gethostbyname_mf error : Unknown host (host [tgspapp3])"
when not on server tgspapp3
and
"<< 2009-05-06 01:00:07 0003848/uxset < /connect 2inet-05-m 01:035888915 - connectio on / conpbatch1.global.pion13588om port c10607 [??????] err 10061 , -Unglobal.error"
and wondering how important these errors are ?
I use hobbit to monitor my network and am wondering what sorts of errors should i be looking for/filtering out when i set up this monitoring for $U logs ?
Should i monitor more than universe.log ?
I don't see any other question like this so maybe it could be made into a support question or a sticky ?
Solved : Monitoring log files and what to look for ?

Hello,
The first message maybe linked to the absence of a variable setting (in files uxsetenv* in mgr, and files *.def in exec on Windows only) about a process used in Dollar Universe V4.3 and still defined for compatibitly reasons until V5.0 (the PMP server).
Variable U_PMP_DISABLE should be defined (and exported on UNix) with the value Y.
Sometimes such messages may also be linked to a network issue or a network misconfiguration.
If after declaring the variable, stopping and restarting Dollar Universe on the various nodes, the issue remains, double-check the consistency of your Node and MU Tables as well as the information in file uxsrsrv.sck (mgr directory) on the various nodes.
If things are still unsolved and you do not notice any error, the best thing to do is to open a call at Dollar Access and provide them with the results of uxtrace for the various nodes.
I never came across the second error message and was unable to find a case with this message at Technical Support!

Forgot to mention that you should be monitoring:
- disk space
- Dollar Universe processes
- universe.log. Other log files linked to Dollar Universe are of less interest (some customers monitor the IO server and/or the Launcher log files though).
