Hello Bubble,
yes, the use of ACLs for Dollar Universe files is recommended on VMS.
Here is a short explanation why:
The UIC protection system on VMS allows to give different right levels (Read, Write, Execute, Delete) to a file or a directory for 4 categories of users : System, Owner, Group and World.
However, as VMS only defines a single Group per user (identified by the user's GID) and no "secondary groups" (as opposed to Unix or Windows) the UIC protections may not answer needs in all configurations.
VMS includes the Identifier object. Once created, identifiers are granted to users who need them. Identifiers are also used in ACLs set on files and directories.
To offer the best level of protection, Orsyp recommend the use of ACLs on all installations of Dollar Universe on openVMS.
