Solved : $U Installation with Solaris RBAC

We are new to $Universe and our security team have specified the use of RBAC to restrict the $U users and tools. We will create a new group and users for installing and running $U.

I'm assuming the "install and run" user or users need full access to the $U directories and the ability to execute external processes that will be controlled, for example Oracle sqlplus or netbackup. However has anyone done this before and is there any guidance out there on privileges that need to be assigned to avoid us hitting pitfalls that others have already fixed?

Thanks in advance

Solved : Dollar Universe on Windows 2008 64b

Hello,

This topic was raised in the French speaking section and I believe it should be shared by everyone.

By default, Dollar Universe runs in 32b compatibility mode on Windows 64b. This feature is called WoW64 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WoW64).
When a process runs that way, some workarounds are used so that 32b programs find their data where they need it.

For instance, in WoW64 mode (32b compatibility):
- c:\windows\system32 points to directory c:\windows\syswow64\, which contains the 32b compatibility libraries and 32b binaries
- %PROGRAMFILES% points to c:\program files (x86)\

So, if you do { dir c:\windows\system32 } or { dir "%PROGRAMFILES%" } from a 32b command line (running c:\windows\syswow64\cmd.exe) or from a 64b command line (running c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe), the results will differ.

The SERVICE64 is a special qualifier which can be used on some DU updates, only with the agreement of ORSYP Tech Support, to install the submission services (the well-known "Univer$e username" services ) called "64bits". Then, Uproc scripts run in DU inherit the native 64b environment (and not the 32b compatibility environment from WoW64).

An example:
- a Uproc script run by a 32b submission user (default) sees in c:\windows\system32\ what is in c:\windows\syswow64\
- a Uproc script run by a 64b submission user sees in c:\windows\system32\ what is really in c:\windows\system32\

This matters for some binaries which only exist in one of the folders, like "defrag.exe" (c:\windows\system32\defrag.exe exists, but c:\windows\syswow64\defrag.exe does not). Because of this, without the 64b user services, it is impossible to run this binary without copying it to c:\windows\syswow64\.

Today, DU generic supervision meets the same issue, but there is no workaround to have it run in 64b mode. It has to run in 32b compatibility mode, so it cannot access the true content of folder c:\windows\system32\; seeing instead the content of c:\windows\syswow64\. It is possible to use the UXSPV_MSGJOB variable (in uxsetenv.bat in folder mgr and the 2 .DEF files in the exec folder) to specify the script path (see section "Generic supervision in Windows" in the "Administration guide" ).

Dollar Universe working with 2 PeopleSoft Process Scheduler

Hello,

We will have in our Company a possible architecture review that could affect Dollar Universe architecture. (Due to the upgrade of PeopleTools 8.49 to PeopleTools 8.50).
Today we have one PeopleSoft Process Scheduler on MS Windows 2003 OS, but tomorrow we could choose the option to have 2 PeopleSoft Process Schedulers, one on MS Windows 2003 and the other one on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.

I precise that we will choose if this modification of architecture will happen to install Dollar Universe on Oracle Enterprise Linux OS.

What I would like to know is :
- Is Dollar Universe 5.3.3 certified with OEL5 ? (I think yes because I've already heard that Dollar Universe certification is based on Kernel and not a specific version of Linux)
- How will Dollar Universe recognize the 2 Process Schedulers ? will the fact to just precise the PS_HOME make the possibility to schedule process on the 2 process Scheduler ?
- During installation of $U Manager for PeopleSoft we need to specify process executables files location, but if we have 2 separate process scheduler on 2 different Server/OS how will it be setup ?

Thanks by advance for your help/information.

Solved : Why do we need uxsrsrv.sck?

Hi gurus,

The installation process always creates a file called uxsrsrv.sck, in which it has one lonely line in the following format:
<nodeName> <hostName>

Q1: Would we ever see multiple lines in that file? I can see if you have multiple nodes running on the same host, you would. But one would install the clustered nodes in a different directory any way, so it has its own uxsrsrv.sck anyway.

Q2: Would we see any other <hostName> other than the name of the host? What I'm after is that, can we use localhost as <hostName>?
